Put a fork in it

Have you heard Hope of the States' August 2004 debut album The Lost Riots? Doesn't matter if you have, just go read Pitchfork's review of it and tell me that isn't one of the most overbearingly pretentious reviews you've ever read. Seriously, do it. Now contrast that with AMG's review of the same album. Now go listen to it and tell me who you trust.

See, this is the problem with Pitchfork. The staff writers are so full of shit sometimes, it's impossible to trust their reviewing system, because once that trust is broken with a couple bad reviews, it becomes worthless. You're no longer providing a service to me when I have to independently verify everything. Of course, you're missing the point completely if you think I'm saying I want a website that tells me which albums to buy. I just need information, as much as I can find, I need it presented in a simple but comprehensive way. Currently I research about a dozen and a half sites daily with several other variable ones thrown in for good measure, or whatever links I happen to follow. You know how much time I devote to information gathering? I do it because I love it though, and I guess when I see sites that could be doing so much better allow their musical integrity to slack, it just pisses me off.

Now I'm late for work.
